Riviere au Renard....

It's winter

...Quebec, near the southeastern tip of the Gaspe,
and it's an all weather place where people work and play;
a beautiful place with oh so great views,
you should come an visit, haven't you heard the news.

There are mountains and forests, ponds, bog and the sea,
lots' to do and lots to see, what will your choice be?
So much to see and so little time,
well, at least I'm doing this on somebodies dime.

...Quebec, the southeast side of Gaspe,
home of beauty, and at sea the whales play;
so nice up here it's hard to think of going home,
maybe I'll just have to resist..the urge to roam.

It's the end of the Appalachian Mountains here,
stretched from Georgia, on a trail we hold dear;
the trail may be expanded in a year or so,
what a walk that would be.  If you were to go.

....Quebec, an ocean side small town,
but if you're a boater, they enjoy you around,
it's a scenic treasure and good things are here,
so fly, drive or boat while the air is still clear.

I guess you could snowmobile there now days,
because there's enough of that around, but no smokey haze;
I think you could also get here by rail,
or, if you tiny, someone could put you in the mail.

....Quebec, it's name after the old one...
..in Britain.  It's a lovely place to come;
railroad and shipping, hard working men,
lumber, fishing, work, that's all there's ever been.

But scenery and the ocean, at your front door?
How could you not envy them, this land's not poor;
the hills, the sea and open fields, all here every day,
what a wonderful place, to work, or visit and play.

A nice drive

...Quebec, a small working town and host,
tourism is king here, but it doesn't get the most;
there are a few trails, boat rides and whales,
nice to look at but not too close, most of the view is tales.

It's quite a trip around the Gaspe,
and it can't be done in just a day;
this is beautiful country by and large,
but I have to wonder, who's really in charge.

...Quebec, a resort of a kind,
treatments with sea water, not for the mind;
sometimes it's water and sometimes it's mud,
but they won't get me to wallow in the crud.

It's called Thalassotherapy, you can look it up,
no thanks, I said, I want my water in a cup.
There is lots of scenery here, nice walk for the day,
come on up to the Gaspe peninsula, and have a stay.

...Quebec, this is the home of old things,
some here for the first Christmas bell that rings;
old, old fossils of definite shapes here,
maybe preserved by cold seas and air that is clear.

It's interesting to see all of this very old stuff,
even UNESCO is present, and not had enough;
no one knows why it's the particular place,
try to figure it out, and it makes your mind race.

...Quebec, on the Gulf of St. Lawrence, it's very nice,
except for maybe the winter, when it's very ice;
a small village, in French speaking Quebec,
so we'll use those place names - what the heck.

There are woodsmen and fishermen here in this town,
hard working people, with one village clown;
these men and women here - we may owe them a lot,
it's the hard working ethic - the same as we've got.

...New Brunswick, bicyclist flock to the place,
a brand new downhill course is theirs to race,
there are hiking trails in there too,
25km (15.5 miles) are yours to do.

The town is welcoming all who come in,
it's nice and quiet, no angry din;
it's our last day in New Brunswick, when we cross that bridge,
when we enter Quebec to see our next ridge.

Bathurst...

Bathurst where the Nepisquit River enter the sea.

...New Brunswick, a nice little stop,
lots of nice trees, with snow on the top,
already for guests come and enjoy;
at least that's the case for this good old boy.

More parks and walkways, oh what a treat,
I'm guessing for walkways New Brunswick can't be beat,
so good for walking, should I start a tour?
Walk on them all? But my legs are sore.

Miramichi....

Fly fishing on the Miramichi River

...New Brunswick, the place where they come to fish,
famous for fly fishing for an Atlantic Salmon on your dish;
natural beauty is just a part of the place,
and, for fishermen, it will put a smile on your face.

The river is legend, but Miramichi has proud people too,
because besides fishing there are lots of thing to do;
some earn a living in business on shore,
some fish the offshore waters, and more.

...New Brunswick, here for another day,
hate to leave, could stay for a week, that's all that I can say;
so much to see, it's beyond belief,
we'll see more today, to my relief.

From bears, to moose and three kinds of whales for you
piping plovers, terns and herons too;
and scenery we haven't seen we'll have to pass,
on to more and better things, well...step on the gas!

  ...New Brunswick, a very large park,
woods, bogs and shoreline, if you're out for a lark,
there are many trails and boardwalks, for us to use,
so, just stick around, and see which ones to choose.

Let start with the boardwalks, out to the bay,
and watch for some wildlife, we may see along the way;
we may be here for more than one day,
so let's look around.  What do you say?

 The way to pronounce the name is Kou-she-boo-gwack, that's Mi'kmaq (Micmac) for river of long
tides.
And another note: The old cyber hobo geezer that writes this stuff is 70 today!

Shediac....

...New Brunswick, just across the bridge,
they have a lobster, it's too big for your fridge;
it's a symbol of how a living is made,
and they don't feel it should be made in the shade.

Hard working people - fishermen are,
just like those guys who get under your car;
or who drive that John Deere, day in and day out,
let's give all workers a thank you shout.

Confederation Bridge..

9 miles of bridge

...PEI, the worlds longest bridge over ice covered water,
when it's cold enough, even sea water freezes as it oughta;
it took a long time to build, the piers go deep down,
and at the other end you're in a new Province and town.

It stretches from Prince Edward Island to...
..the New Brunswick shore, a good ride for you,
if you're walking or riding a bicycle here..
..there's a shuttle running over, you can get there.

Summerside...

Recent waterfront development

...PEI, our last day on PEI, oh what a place,
always new things around the corner to put a smile on your face,
it's some kind of kingdom, this island ground,
and I've been pleased to have been around.

So off tomorrow to cross the bridge,
just to see what's beyond the next ridge;
but first Summerside - it's a real treat,
plenty here to see if you spend time on your feet.

...PEI, a stop along the way,
strange sights right here, better spend the day,
castles and mansions, haunted I might add,
after all of the "regular" stuff, thows me off just a tad.

But we're on our way to Summerside, we'll be there tomorrow,
then on across the Confederation Bridge, much to our sorrow;
that one long ride from here to there, we'll tell you all about it,
until then we'll castle tour, or whatever seems to fit.
