Estevan elevators

...Saskatchewan, way down in the southeast corner,
the wheat is still growing, but I think, it's almost a goner;
coal mining is the Principal occupation in this town,
it's call lignite, also known as coal that's brown.

Two large coal burning electric plants dominate the sky,
while they drill for oil and natural gas, ain't nobody askin' why.
I would guess the output of power that's produced here,
lights a lot of homes, both far and near.

Plenty of sun and water

...Saskatchewan, camping on the lake shore, sitting in the sun,
there are a lot of ways, in the park, to have some fun,
there's Kenosee Lake and all it has to offer, like fish,
or you could hike around, picnic with your favorite dish.

Even in the winter this park is used a lot,
out on the frozen surface snowmobiling is hot;
and I'll be on ice fishing, there must be some of that,
but if you go in winter, you'll need sunglasses and a hat.

Pangman....

The Town of Pangman

...Saskatchewan, or West Calder as it used to be known,
some time ago, and a lot of kids, who now are grown;
still live here today, it's farmers they serve,
country life is good, if you have the nerve.

Wheat is the crop for which this area is known,
but there are others, locally grown,
there's Will and Christy, husband and wife,
breeding miniature donkey's that's their life.

...the lake is shallow and has a high salt content,
some water is drained off, and if you wonder where it went...
...it went to a pool and evaporated for the salt for seasoning;
and that's the rational for that sort of reasoning.

Snow Geese make their home here, arriving in large flocks,
it where they raise their babies. No, they don't wear smocks!
I would imagine it's quite noisy, with the honking and all,
maybe you could "talk" to them, with the right bird call.

Swift Current...

...Saskatchewan, started life as a railroad building site,
that turned in to a small city where it's fun to fly a kite;
it was also known for sheep, once 20,000 strong,
and a bunch of cattle ranches - to which the cows belong.

It serves as a commercial center for the surrounding towns,
and has the facilities to give them caps and gowns;
the oldest theater in Canada graces Main Street and still has some shows,
so if you'd like to visit, go to where the current flows.

Saskatchewan Highway 904, hey this is dirt!

...Saskatchewan, just another pretty place,
a visit here will be sure to put a smile on your face;
the lake itself is large and deep, the water's kind of cool,
but the sun is out, and the weathers great, don't be some kind of fool.

I'll bet it freezes in the winter, in below zero days,
and the sun is dim and takes a bow in the freezing haze;
oh! but summer comes again, when the mosquitoes are gone,
so, come on up and look around, jump in and chill your bone(s)!

A lake in the distance

...Saskatchewan, 1500 square miles of forest and lakes,
hiking, fishing and camping, if you've got what it takes;
the park has a number of lakes, one is large and has beaches,
Lake Waskesiu has a very large beach, as well as a town withing its reaches.

A number of animals, bird species and fish,
all live here, just to add to your dish,
a long list of things you've been wanting to do,
a lot of them are here, and waiting for you.

...Saskatchewan, founded in 1822 by quite a group,
The Temperance Colonization Society in one fell swoop.
Of course, times have changed and that group is gone,
but in parts of the city, the origins live on.

It's a large city, by my terms anyway,
but it's warm and inviting, lots of places to stay,
the people are friendly, they really like to talk,
and there is at least one place to go for a good walk.

Douglas Provencial Park...

Fun on the lake

..Saskatchewan, on Lake Diefenbaker, and lots of sand,
sand in dunes eighty feet high, more than you could hold in your hand,
hiking trails among the dune, and the large lake is there for you,
the lake is huge with lots of fish and boats, and you have nothing to do?

The trails include a section of the Trans Canada Trail,
that's one long trail across this land, not for the frail,
170 species of birds and many kinds of fish,
bring binoculars or a pole, there is a lot on your dish.

Regina....

...Saskatchewan, second largest city,business leader too,
there's a lot here for visitors, like me or you,
a lot to see, a lot to do, take a walk in one of the parks,
or see the museums, or go to a movie on a lark.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have a large presence here,
it's the home of the Academy, where graduation brings a cheer;
and the march in the red uniforms is quite a sight,
there's no doubt they'll get their man, and stand for what is right.

Kandahar...

The Town of Kandahar and Quill Lake

..... Saskatchewan, a peaceful little hamlet with lots of farms and fish,
the Town was named in the late 1800's for a British Victory in Afghanistan, it's not a local dish,
it's quiet here near this great lake, and the water abounds,
please stop on your way through, and quickly make the rounds.

Some Canadian troops are over in the name-sake of this little town,
yes, some are in Kandahar, and they still don't wear a frown;
so let us thank our neighbors, way up in the north,
when we asked, they listened, and sent those soldiers forth.

Yorkton....

Broadway Street in Yorkton

...Saskatchewan, a pleasant country town,
serves more grain farmers, and you won't see a frown;
it's a busy place, lots of people come an go,
almost takes you back, to some years ago.

Farmers need services, and a lot of them too,
so towns like Yorkton are here, to do what they do,
doctors, dentists, bankers and mechanics here to serve you,
they fill the needs for those, yes, they really do.
