Vayageur Provincial Park....

A quiet place
....a canoeist delight, quiet water with some rough stuff too,
so, if you'd like to paddle, this may be the place for you.
For the rest of us, it's a real pretty place,
rest, we have no need to join the race.

There are many species of birds that call this park home,
and fishing is allowed, and you can watch the deer, as you roam;
as we go east the parks thin out in number,
so we won't get a many, just remember.

Hawkesbury.......

Hawksbury skyline
...Ontario, headed east to Quebec, this is a reasonable stop,
a small city, not at rest, busy with paper making, people really hop;
steel, glass and plastics round out the jobs, except for commerce, at least tonight,
people work hard all week just to relax, they've earned the right.

The first lumber mill was here in 1805,
lumber carries on, lets the town thrive;
new people are moving in, a retirement center if you will,
I wonder what they'll do, besides taking a pill?

Smiths Falls....

...Ontario, a City that is home to four sets of locks,
relics of early river transportation, getting over rocks,
because the river dropped the boats needed a boost,
and that's how the locks, came home to roost.

This is a former manufacturing center, Hershey's northern home,
but it got moved to Mexico, the home of the payday loan;
cheap labor cost them dearly, that was a lot of work,
and now they think Mr. Hershey is a wicked jerk!

Frontenac Provincial Park...

A small island - click
...Ontario, a park that's home to a lot of lakes,
and hiking trails galore, if you've got what it takes;
the ground looks like there aren't too many hills,
so go take a walk, it may help cure your ills.

There are bears and foxes and many bird species,
so bring some binoculars to figure out the pieces;
it's really a very fun place,
come on, and try it, get out of the race.

Kingston....

Kingston seen from Fort Henry - click
...Ontario, defender of Lake Ontario in Eighteen-twelve;
the British fortified the City, sort of a safety valve;
the American Fleet stood ready just across the way,
now there is one fort and four towers, seen every day.

The was an industrial place, heavy industry it was,
mostly gone now, a "rust belt", you already know the cause;
now a center of banking and other service stuff,
but it's value in history, is really quite enough.

Barrie....

The waterfront in Barrie - click
...Ontario, on the shores of Lake Simcoe, the city grows,
from commerce to education, it's a place everyone knows;
close to the "cottage country" a little further north,
people passing through use it for its worth.

Solid with banking, making things and all,
there's a little night life, people can have a ball,
and of course there's the lake, it's a large one at that,
and you can take a speedboat, and hold on to your hat.

French River Provincial Park...

The French River in a section of natural rock walls - click
...Ontario, the drain of Lake Nipissing runs to Georgian Bay,
that's a long trip, even water takes more than a day;
and all along the flow there are many scenic places,
I'd like to see it in the spring, when the water really races.

It is also a great place, if you have a love of rocks,
and there are guided tours for people who like talks,
so if your into water, rocks or just good views,
this might be the place, I'll share the welcome news.

Killarney Provincial Park...

The view from the Granite Ridge Trail - click
...Ontario, a very scenic park your for the viewing,
if you like those rounded granite hills, come here and stop your stewing,
the formations are almost the same as Acadia National Park,
except there's no ocean, but there's camping after dark.

Many kinds of animals, 40 reptiles and amphibians too,
and over one hundred species of birds that flew;
come and enjoy the peace and quiet here,
walk a trail of just sit, it will fill you with cheer.

Spanish....

A frosty morning, Spanish Ontario
...Ontario, si habla Canadian, or onions, I don't know which,
or how the Town of Spanish got it's name - don't bitch.
It's a small and pleasant place, where we could spend the day,
but it is not frequented by visitors, or "people from away".

And there aren't too many photographers who come and snap a bunch,
but there are a few places where you could stop for lunch;
and for the lack of pictures, to bad it's really nice,
we have just three photos, so we'll put this part on ice.

Channel Islands Provincial Park....

LaCloche Mountains in the park
....more of Ontario covered with hills and lakes,
we should see more of them, if we have the time it takes;
all worth viewing, each has it place and time,
so let's just travel forth, with me that's more than fine.

Great views are everywhere, you won't know which way to look,
if we took pictures of them all, we'd need a very large book;
so we take a peek or two, then travel on our way,
but, before we go, let's see what we found today.

Montreal River Provincial Park....

A view near the park entrance
...this is a wild place, you're going to need a boat,
or a canoe, kayak, or something that will float;
or, you can walk in, and live among the trees,
or high on a mountain top where you can feel the breeze.

There's a lot of research done in places like this,
it's raw and unexploited, science lives in bliss;
all sorts of lichens, bear berries and a granite bluff,
they're in there working, they really know their stuff.

Lake Superior Provincial Park....

The shoreline and the lake-click
...this is a park where you can take a short ride,
or tough it out, 40 miles of hike can be tough on your hide;
it may take a week, seven full days,
before you finish that shoreline maze.

You can also kayak and canoe,
out on that water, shiny and blue.
It's sure beautiful, so what do you say,
are you able to spend more than a day?
